Bactrim (Bactrim DS) Tablets
Bactrim DS tablets are a prescription medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. These tablets are typically taken orally and should be stored at room temperature. Bactrim DS tablets are an effective solution for treating bacterial infections of the vagina, stomach, liver, and intestines, but they are also effective against urinary tract infections (UTIs). Bactrim DS is an oral tablet that works by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger that normally causes bacterial growth. It inhibits the growth of the bacteria that cause infections. This is important for people who have had a bacterial infection in the vagina, liver, or joints, or who have been taking medications containing sulfa drugs for more than 2 months. Bactrim DS tablets are also effective against sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoniasis.
The active ingredient in Bactrim DS tablets is trimethoprim, which is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of antibiotics known as sulfonamides. Sulfa drugs, such as trimethoprim, work by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. Bactrim DS tablets contain trimethoprim, but it is not a sulfonamide antibiotic. It can also be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
